DESCRIPTION

Ultra rare 1971-73 AMC Javelin AMX Cowl Induction Air Cleaner assembly. This assembly has been refinished to represent the factory appearance as produced for the 1971 models. There are two options for the base:

The first base features the rare snorkel specific to 1971 with no pre-heater provisions. The base is in very good condition and has a single drain hole in the rear - indicating it was appropriate to be used with the Cowl Induction  top, as well as the front breather tube. The flange is 5 1/8" inch and accomodates factory 4 barrel carburetors (Autolite 4300 models) as well as modern iterations of Edelbrock AFB and select Holley carburetors. The base is finished off with a reproduction AMC licensed 401 Four Barrel High Compression air cleaner decal and correct air cleaner service decal. The original fresh air lid is in good condtion as well and features the 4 dimple wing nut well. The assembly is completed with a period correct wing nut.

The second base features the vacuum pre-heater option with new vacuum lines and the same fitment requirements as described above.

The Cowl Induction flapper assembly is in excellent condition. It is complete with a new vacuum actuator that allows the trap door to provide fresh air to the engine and has been installed with Rivnuts using lock-tite for ease of service. The door functions smoothly with the supplied vacuum line, while the OEM seal remains in very nice condition considering it is over 45 years old! Since the seals are not reproduced by anyone, this is indeed an exceptionally nice piece! "Made In Canada" stamps have been added as a nice touch of authenticity.

This base assembly was available for a limited time during the late 71 production run, as Federal emissions and drive-by noise reverted the performance air cleaners to a snorkel with pre-heating requirements. It will work with the Cowl Induction fresh air systems designed for the AMX/Javelin/SST Go-Pak optioned cars. 

This is a unique assembly that is both very rare and highly coveted by AMC enthusiasts.

This assembly is correct for the following 1971-73 401/360 models:

AMC

Javelin AMX, SC Hornet, SST

It will fit a variety of AMC cars from 1968-1974 as well, but is correct for the 71-73 models.

PLEASE SPECIFY WHICH BASE YOU REQUIRE: 71 MODELS USE THE BASE WITHOUT THE VACUUM PREHEATER; 72-73 USE THE BASE WITH THE VACUUM AND PREHEATER.

 

The assembly will fit factory 4 barrel Autolite carburetors with a 5 1/8" diameter flange, as well as Holley (non-double pumpers), Carter, and Edelbrock variations without electric choke (some adjustment to the carburetor alignment tang may be required). If you have modified your carburetor or intake manifold, please inquire first prior to bidding to ensure fitment is correct. Return requests for non-fitment will not be honored.

This assembly is guaranteed to match the item description – customers have up to 14 days to return the assembly after receipt if it is not as described.

 

RETURNS

Assemblies must be returned in the original packing – customers are responsible for return shipping charges. A refund will be issued upon receipt of the inspected assembly. Returns for non-fitment will not be honored – please ask questions first.
