1979 Pontiac Trans Am 400 W72 Air Cleaner

DESCRIPTION

OEM 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Pontiac W72 400 Shaker Air Cleaner. The assembly has been refinished in semi-gloss black to present a period correct image. The base features the oval snorkel inlet in good condition with the correct 6" opening, new yellow-striped and black vacuum lines, and a new heavy duty air filter. Both an original ATS with correct clip and EVE valve with clip are included as well. The exterior features a GM Licensed Air Cleaner Service Decal (PJ=79). The base features the correct deep drop required for proper shaker hood clearance, as well as the angled flange that parallels the base level with the sloped hood line of the F-body. The assembly connects to your fresh air system if desired.

An original shaker lid installs on top of the filter and enhances the assembly. To complete the package, a period correct wing nut and a new filter breather replete with GM stamped ribbed rubber adapter are included. 

As an added value, an excellent pre-heater elbow - replete with correct Wittek tower clamp and hose - are included. This assembly is in excellent condition and will enhance your restoration. Best of all, it is a genuine GM part!

APPLICATIONS

This assembly is correct for the following 1979 models:

Pontiac

Trans Am with 400 Pontiac engine: W-72 (79 specific due to 6" oval snorkel inlet); L78 400.

Note:it will also fit 78, 76, 77, and 75 cars, as they came with the oval snorkel inlet. It will also work on 77 models, but all featured the round 4" snorkel - this assembly will still work, but is not technically correct.

*It will also fit 455 Pontiac engines transplanted into 400 cars. 

Note: this will NOT fit the L80 403 Olds engines or Pontiac 301/Chevrolet 350 engines due to the offset of the shaker scoop, as well as the difference in carburetor flange drop. 

FITMENT

The assembly will fit factory 4 barrel Quadrajet carburetors with a 5 1/8" diameter flange, as well as Holley (it will NOT fit double pumpers; i.e. models 4150/4160), Carter/Edelbrock variations without an electric choke (some adjustment to the carburetor alignment tangs may be required). If you have modified your carburetor or intake manifold, please inquire first prior to bidding to ensure fitment is correct. Return requests for non-fitment will not be honored.

WARRANTY

This assembly is guaranteed to match the item description – customers have up to 14 days to return the assembly after receipt if it is not as described.

RETURNS

Assemblies must be returned in the original packing – customers are responsible for return shipping charges. A refund will be issued upon receipt of the inspected assembly. Returns for non-fitment will not be honored – please ask questions first.

CLAIMS

In the event of shipping damage, customers must save all packaging and send 5 digital pictures so Musclecar Air Cleaners can initiate a shipping damage claim.
