1978-79 PONTIAC TRANS AM W72 SHAKER AIR CLEANER

DESCRIPTION

OEM 1978-79 Pontiac Trans Am Pontiac W72 400 Shaker Air Cleaner. The assembly has media blasted and refinished in semi-gloss black to present a period correct image. The base features the W72 oval snorkel in good condition with the correct 6" opening, along with new yellow striped and black vacuum lines. The exterior features a new Air Cleaner Service Decal (PJ=79). The base features the correct deep drop required for proper shaker hood clearance, as well as the angled flange that parallels the base level with the sloped hood line. The original shaker lid is in good condition as well. To complete the package, a period correct wing nut and a new filter breather are included. 

An original A542C air filter is included - an extremely difficult PN to find any more - matching the air cleaner service decal requirements.

As an added value, an original Trans Am pre-heater elbow (with valve cover relief notch on bottom), along with an original Wittek tower clamp and new black pre-heater hose are included to make installation more complete.

This assembly presents very nicely and will enhance your restoration. Best of all, it is a genuine GM part!

APPLICATIONS

This assembly is correct for the following 1978-79 W72 models:

Pontiac

Trans Am with 400 / 455* Pontiac engine

*It will also fit 73-76 and 80-81 cars with 400/455 engine, but may require a different breather filter tube.1977 W-72 cars used the round 4" air cleaner, as did L78 (180HP) models in 78. Note that this air cleaner is specific to 78-79 models in that the location of the valve cover breather inlet - it differs from the earlier models. 

Note: this will NOT fit the L80 403 Olds engines or Pontiac 301/Chevrolet 350 engines due to the offset of the shaker scoop, as well as the difference in carburetor flange drop. 

FITMENT

The assembly will fit factory 4 barrel Quadrajet carburetors with a 5 1/8" diameter flange, as well as Holley (it will NOT fit double pumpers; i.e. models 4150/4160), Carter/Edelbrock variations without an electric choke (some adjustment to the carburetor alignment tangs may be required). If you have modified your carburetor or intake manifold, please inquire first prior to bidding to ensure fitment is correct. Return requests for non-fitment will not be honored.

RETURNS

Assemblies must be returned in the original packing – customers are responsible for return shipping charges. A refund will be issued upon receipt of the inspected assembly. Returns for non-fitment will not be honored – please ask questions first.
