1977-78 PONTIAC TRANS AM L78 400 SHAKER AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY
DESCRIPTION
OEM 1977-78 Pontiac Trans Am Pontiac L78 W72 400 Shaker Air Cleaner. The assembly has been refinished in 60% gloss black to mirror the factory image. The base has the L78 round snorkel inlet which is in good condition with the correct 4" opening and updated with original yellow-striped and black vacuum lines, EVE valve, correct Air Temperature Sensor, and a new breather filter replete with a GM stamped adapter hose. The exterior features a GM Air Cleaner Service Decal (RD) marked for 1977.
The base features the correct deep drop required for proper shaker hood clearance, as well as the angled flange that parallels the base level with the sloped hood line of the F-body. The assembly connects to your fresh air intake hose (not included, but available separately). Minor surface anomalies remain on the snorkel, but out of sight once the shaker is installed.
A nice replacement lid installs on top of the new heavy duty air filter and comes with a period correct wing nut to complete the assembly.
This is a nice driver air cleaner assembly that presents well and will return your T/A back to the way the factory intended it to be. Best of all, it is a genuine GM part!

APPLICATIONS
This assembly is correct for the following 1977-78 models:
Pontiac
Trans Am with 400 Pontiac engine
Note that the 1977 W72 package came with this style air cleaner assembly, while 78-79 reverted to the oval inlet assembly.
*It will also fit 455 Pontiac engines transplanted into 400 cars. It will also fit 73-76 cars as well, but is not technically correct for their applications.
Note: this will NOT fit the L80 403 Olds engines or Pontiac 301/Chevrolet 350 engines due to the offset of the shaker scoop, as well as the difference in carburetor flange drop and shaker adapter plate diameter.
FITMENT
The assembly will fit factory 4 barrel Quadrajet carburetors with a 5 1/8" diameter flange, as well as Holley (it will NOT fit double pumpers; i.e. models 4150/4160), Carter/Edelbrock variations without an electric choke (some adjustment to the carburetor alignment tangs may be required). If you have modified your carburetor or intake manifold, please inquire first prior to bidding to ensure fitment is correct. Return requests for non-fitment will not be honored.

This assembly is guaranteed to match the item description – customers have up to 14 days to return the assembly after receipt if it is not as described.
RETURNS
Assemblies must be returned in the original packing – customers are responsible for return shipping charges. A refund will be issued upon receipt of the inspected assembly. Returns for non-fitment will not be honored – please ask questions first.
