1971-72 Pontiac Formula 455 HO Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner

DESCRIPTION

OEM 1971-72 Pontiac Firebird Formula 455 Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner. The assembly has been refinished in semi-gloss black to present a period correct image. The base features the dual oval snorkels with ThermAC vacuum pods in fully functional condition featuring typical factory stamping waves in both the tops and snorkel edges. The base is exclusive to 1971-72 models due to the addition of the carburetor vent hole. It comes complete with the correct AC scripted ATS, retainer, and new white-striped vacuum lines, along with a reproduced date code (late 70 production). The exterior features a reproduced Air Cleaner Service Decal (PK=71). The base features the correct deep drop required for proper hood clearance, as well as the angled flange that parallels the base level with the sloped hood line of the F-body. Both of the pre-heater elbows (one for the cross-over and one for the exhaust manifold) feature clearanced bottoms required for valve cover clearance and include the original Wittek tower clamps and have been fitted with new pre-heater black foil hoses. The dual pre-heater inlets are correct for the 455 engine without external Ram Air and are in excellent condition. 

An original factory lid installs on top of the heavy duty air filter and enhances the assembly (minor anamolies) and is garnished with a reproduction 455 HO decal.To complete the package, a period correct wing nut and a new filter breather replete GM stamped adapter are included. 

There are differences between the flange drop of the GTO air cleaner bases as compared to the F-body cars - hood clearance is the primary issue and the shallower A-body drop base will not properly clear the sloped F-body hood line. This assembly will fit the GTO/A-body engines, but is not technically correct.

This assembly presents well and will enhance your restoration. Best of all, it is a rare genuine GM part!

Firebird Formula 455 without Ram Air

Note: it will fit 70 cars as well, but has the carburetor vent tube hole, as well as the dual pre-heater provisions.

*It will also fit 400 Pontiac engines. 

FITMENT

The assembly will fit factory 4 barrel Quadrajet carburetors with a 5 1/8" diameter flange, as well as Holley (it will NOT fit double pumpers; i.e. models 4150/4160), Carter/Edelbrock variations without an electric choke (some adjustment to the carburetor alignment tangs may be required). If you have modified your carburetor or intake manifold, please inquire first prior to bidding to ensure fitment is correct. Return requests for non-fitment will not be honored.
