1971-73 AMC AMX JAVELIN SST COWL INDUCTION RAM AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY OEM MINT
Take Your Go-Pak To The Track!
OEM 1971-73 AMC Javelin AMX SST Cowl Induction Air Cleaner assembly. This assembly has been refinished to represent the factory appearance as produced for the 1971-73 models. The base features the vacuum pre-heater assembly introduced in late 1971, as well as the correct drain hole on the floor of the base. It is in excellent condition and retains the front breather tube. The flange is 5 1/8" inch and accommodates factory 4 barrel carburetors (Autolite 4300 models) and modern iterations of Edelbrock AFB and select Holley carburetors. The base is completed with a reproduction AMC licensed 360 or 401 Four Barrel High Compression air cleaner decal and the correct green air cleaner service decal. The fresh air lid is in good condition and maintains the 4 dimple wing nut well. The assembly is completed with an NOS genuine AMC Factory Service High Performance Perforated Air Filter (PN 8992873) and period correct AMC wing nut.
The Cowl Induction flapper assembly is in mint condition. It is complete with an original properly functioning vacuum actuator that allows the trap door to provide fresh air to the engine and has been installed with Riv-nuts using lock-tite for ease of service. The door functions smoothly with the supplied vacuum line, while the OEM seal remains in near mint condition considering it is over 49 years old! The seal is one of the nicest we have seen for an original and doesn't show any signs of compression marks. Since the seals are not reproduced by anyone, this is indeed a very nice opportunity! A "Made In Canada" stamp has been added as a nice touch of authenticity.
This base assembly was available from 71-73 production runs. It will work with the Cowl Induction fresh air systems designed for the AMX/Javelin/SST Go-Pak optioned cars. Note that the very early 71 models featured a straight tapered snorkel without the vacuum actuator; this changed around mid-year of production due to Federal emissions requirements. The final picture illustrates how the entire assembly was completed via a factory diagram.
This is a unique assembly that is both an ultra rare and highly coveted by AMC enthusiasts.
Many of our parts are available only once - we cannot predict if/when another will become available due to the scarcity of original parts. The old adage "here today, gone tomorrow" applies to many of these unique assemblies. While we strive to maintain a strong diversity of desirable parts, there simply aren't enough available to meet demand at times.
