DESCRIPTION

OEM 1969 Hurst Olds 4-4-2 455 Ram Air Cleaner Assembly. This is an ultra-rare H/O air cleaner assembly for the special 69 models where only 909+) were produced. The air cleaner base and top have been refinished to present a period correct image. The large single snorkel with the formed oval end (as opposed to smaller unit for 350 cars with pressed on end fitting) is in nice condition and features a fully functional ThermAC pre-heater along with new white striped and black vacuum lines (without the factory over spray). The base is clean and comes with a correct 1969 air temperature sensor (ATS) installed with the original retainer.  The exterior features a car-specific Air Cleaner Service Decal (OW=69) that replaces the originally located decal.  As an added measure, an original date stamp has been recreated to add a nice touch of authenticity (April 69). This assembly is specific to 1969 H/O cars due to the location of the filter breather outlet, snorkel size/orientation, and pre-heater inlet location on the bottom of the snorkel. It presents as a typical factory original part did. Note this base was prior to the service bulletin requiring drain holes in the base found on later 69-72 models.

The Ram Air piece is an all original metal base (retaining all of the factory assembly flaws), complete with a fully functional trap door and new vacuum motor (attached with removable Rivnuts for ease of service). It has been finished as black oxide (grayish in color) to match the original look. A new externally skinned foam seal has been added to provide a more pristine appearance for excellent visual representation. The part fits inside the air cleaner base with specific orientations for air inlet and grommet accessibility. Note the original vacuum line fittings from the topper are included; the newly installed white striped vacuum lines are displayed and installed in the same manner.

To complete the package, a new heavy duty air filter, along with a new breather filter tube grommet with OEM breather tube, and period correct wing nut, are included. 

This assembly is very nice and will enhance your restoration. Best of all, it is an ultra-rare genuine GM/Hurst part!

This assembly is an extremely limited one-year only piece (built from Mar-May 1969 by Hurst using Demmer conversions) due to the size and nature of the snorkel, Ram Air components, pre-heater inlet orientation, and valve cover fitting for the breather element. 

 

FITMENT

 

The assembly will fit factory 4 barrel Quadrajet carburetors with a 5 1/8" diameter flange, as well as most Holley (not double pumpers), Carter, and Edelbrock variations (some adjustment to the carburetor alignment tangs may be required). Fits non- A/C cars only. If you have modified your carburetor or intake manifold, please inquire first prior to bidding to ensure fitment is correct. Return requests for non-fitment will not be honored.
