1969 CAMARO L78 396/375HP Z/28 427 OEM COWL INDUCTION AIR CLEANER YENKO
Original OEM 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396/375HP 427/425 427/450 Z28 302/290 HP Cowl Induction Air Cleaner. This assembly has been refinished in the correct 60% gloss black finish to present a period correct image. The base features the original style flat bottom (69 only) complete with correct snorkel and orientation. The flame arrestor tube features the twin 45 degree bends, meaning it will fit both the Holley and Rochester carburetors without causing interference. An NOS GM stamped flame arrestor screen fits on the tube (OEM box included), adding to the originality even further. The rear distributor indentation features the correct factory ribs as well. The exterior is dressed with an NOS Air Cleaner Service Decal (DG=1969/loosely installed to show the rear OEM lines on the back). As a nice finishing touch, an original date stamp (late December 69) has been added for for further authenticity.
The original factory cowl seal sits atop the correct original narrowed (for Camaros without a cut edge) seal flange, calling out the original REAR decal for alignment purposes. An original lid enhances the classic muscle car appearance and includes a choice of new 396 Turbo-Jet 375 Horsepower, 427 Turbo-Jet 425 Horsepower, or 427 Turbo-Jet 450 Horsepower decal sets, or a Z/28 302 Turbo-Fire 290 Horsepower decal (loosely installed). As an added value, Big Block selection includes a new GM stamped adapter hose fitted with an NOS big block valve cover elbow (still in GM wrapping), adding even further distinction in original appearance. For the 302 Z/28 option, an original rubber elbow connects to an original valve cover nipple specific to the small blocks.
To complete the package, the assembly is fitted with a new square mesh A212CW AC Delco air filter (with period correct lettering) that provides the right look of the era. Finally, an original black GM wing nut is included.
These assemblies were limited to the Z/28 and big block cowl induction cars from 1969 (L78 396, L72 427, Z/28, and ZL1 cars) with the ZL2 package. They are NOT reproduced by any company, making them far more desirable and difficult to find (all reproductions feature the raised base with a filter ridge for the 70 year Chevelle, along with poorly welded snorkel flanges featuring up to 10 welds as opposed to 4). The flat bottoms were only used for 69 F-body cars and previous closed element iterations of 65-67 models with different snorkel orientations.

Note: 4 Speed equipped cars shared the same cowl induction assembly as the automatic cars in 1969.
Some early cowl induction air cleaners featured the two 45 degree bends in the flame arrestor tubes, while later models may have featured only a single 90 bend tube. While debates abound, the significance may be academic; the flat bottom is distinctly original to the 69 assemblies only.
The assembly will fit factory 4 barrel Quadrajet/Holley carburetors with a 5 1/8" diameter flange, as well as most other Holley, Carter, and Edelbrock variations without electric choke (some adjustment to the carburetor alignment tangs may be required) only on NON-A/C cars. If you have modified your carburetor, distributor, intake manifold, or valve covers, please inquire first prior to bidding to ensure fitment is correct. Return requests for non-fitment will not be honored.
