1968 CHEVROLET IMPALA CAPRICE 396/325HP OVAL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY
DESCRIPTION
OEM 1968 Chevrolet Impala Caprice Biscayne Sport Coupe 396/325HP oval snout Air Cleaner. The assembly has been media blasted and refinished in the correct semi-gloss black finish to present a period correct image. The single snorkel with oval end (as opposed to round for the Chevelle/Camaro assemblies) is in excellent condition and features a fully functional ThermAC pre-heater along with new vacuum lines. The base is very clean and comes with a correct 1968 air temperature sensor (ATS) installed with the correct GM retainer. The exterior features a GM licensed reproduction Air Cleaner Service Decal (68). Note that the snorkel is canted downward and is angled 90 degrees from carburetor center towards the passenger side fender, as well as the breather filter on the driver's side - both specific to 68. The metal pre-heater elbow is permanently installed and correct for the one-year only assembly as well. As an added measure, the original date stamp has been recreated to add a nice touch of authenticity.
An OEM low profile lid enhances the assembly and features an original seal; note that the rim features factory impressions. To complete the package, a new heavy duty air filter , along with a new breather filter and period correct wing nut are included. There are very minor surface anomalies in the lid - hard to see once installed, but mentioned for clarity. To add further distinction, GM licensed 396 Cross Flags and Turbo-Jet 325HP decals are included (temporarily installed - permanent installation to be made by the buyer as required) to complement the overall assembly.

Chevelle/Camaro - The primary difference between the two air cleaners is the larger oval snout for the Impala/Biscayne models as compared to the round snout for the Chevelle/Camaro assemblies.
FITMENT
The assembly will fit factory 4 barrel Quadrajet carburetors with a 5 1/8" diameter flange, as well as Holley (non-double pumpers), Carter, and Edelbrock variations without electric choke (some adjustment to the carburetor alignment tangs may be required). If you have modified your carburetor, intake manifold or valve covers, please inquire first prior to bidding to ensure fitment is correct. Return requests for non-fitment will not be honored.
