DESCRIPTION

OEM 1968-69 AMC AMX 390 Air Cleaner. This assembly has been refinished to represent the factory appearance as produced for the 68-69 models. It features the correct snorkel inlet housing with a thermally regulated temperature valve and pre-heater provisions. The base is in very good condition and has the front oil breather elbow tube. The flange is 4 1/8" inch and accommodates factory 4 barrel carburetors (Carter AFB). The interior features the original air flow baffle attached via the factory methodology. The exterior carries the 68-69 blue version air cleaner service decal featuring the "Front" call out. The interior has been detailed with the AM logo - a nice touch of authenticity.

The closed chrome top is specific to this assembly and is in good condition-it is original and presents well (8/10 with very minor issues). It is topped off with a new AMX 390 reproduction decal. The dimpled wing nut well is straight and contours perfectly with a new heavy duty air filter. The assembly is completed with a heavy duty air filter and period correct AMC wing nut. Note there are very minor flaws in the chrome on the inside perimeter - hard to see once installed, but mentioned for clarity.

With so few of these left due to early owners discarding them in favor of open element air filter assemblies, they have become increasingly difficult to find in any condition. This assembly is complete and reflects the original period, allowing an incomplete restoration to get that much closer to the original state.

This is a unique item to our store inventory - many items are only available once and there is no guarantee that we will acquire another one any time soon. The old adage "Here today, gone tomorrow" applies to this assembly.

This assembly presents very well and will enhance your restoration. Best of all, it is a rare and genuine AMC part.

APPLICATIONS

 

This assembly is correct for the following 1968-69 models:

AMC

AMX 390, Rebel, SST

*may also be used on the ultra-rare Hurst SC Rambler 390/The Machine by using a smaller lid, shortened snorkel, and hood seal

It will fit a variety of AMC engines up through 1970 - 290, 343, 360, 401 with the smaller diameter flange carburetor. Note this style differs from the smaller displacements assemblies by way of a larger diameter, as well as snorkel length. It will not fit the 70 Ram Air systems due to being taller and featuring the smaller carburetor flange.

 

FITMENT

 

The assembly will fit factory 4 barrel Carter carburetors with a 4 1/8" diameter flange. It will NOT fit later model (Holley, Carter, and Edelbrock, or Autolite) variations with the larger 5 1/8" flange. If you have modified your carburetor or intake manifold, please inquire first prior to purchase to ensure fitment is correct. Return requests for non-fitment will not be honored.
